Sometimes fighter henchies are bad
I've read a few threads recently on the pros and cons of henchies. A common theme was how dumb they are, but generally most people liked the way the fighters behaved.
I was running the Frost Gate bonus mission last week with henchies and had problems using the two fighters. There is one area near a ballista that has two 5-monster mobs very close together. When I tried to pull one of the mobs, the two fighters rushed up and aggroed the other mob.
Then, I changed my party to all casters and they all hung back, allowing me to pull a single mob and get through the bonus. Now, when I use henchies, I usually go all casters for this reason.
Just wanted to share this in case anyone is having problems pulling with henchies.

Only thing I hate is that they tend to not attack if the enemy you're targetting is out of their range.

I hear ya....I've actually become pretty good at pulling when I have Fighter henchies.
Remember they do follow you, so if you use an attack to pull, you're guaranteed to lose the fighters to the mobs.
However, if you pull using only your radar bubble and then make a pronounced retreat, your fighter henchies will follow you back and won't attack until you do.
Basically it forces you to pull a bit further back than if you were with PC's.

Actualy, the henchmen will engage them if they range attack you.

Yeah if the slightest thing hits them, they go berserk.

I just finished Hell's Precipice with only Henchmen, and Little Thom and Devona were with me. And I pulled like a 1 with my E/Mo. I just equipped a longbow (doing like 1 damage of course , shot an arrow at one of them Fist of the Titans bunched up near the portals, and as soon as I shot the arrow, I ran back. First Little Thom and Devona would storm off, but as soon as I retreated they would too stay in my radar "bubble". When we were away from the other mobs, I just CTRL-space'd the enemy, and all the henchies would now engage him.
I have to admit the last mission was a piece of cake with the henchies, while I died trying it like 5 times with PUGs.
Also I realized when you select yourself from the ally-list and CTRL-space you you will shout out "I am following (whatever you name is)" and all the henchies will try to get back to you, even when Little Thom is out there in the lava fighting some Fist. That helped alot.
